Attitudes & Actions Introduction |
|---|
|
What should our attitude be? Are we morally right with the LORD? Psalms 34:9, "Fear {revere} the LORD, you His saints, for those who fear Him, {are morally reverent} lack nothing." Psalms 34:7, "God will judge the righteous and the evil ones." Ecclesiastes 3:16-17, "And again I saw under the sun in the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there. 17 I said in my heart, 'God shall judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.' " Is God watching and listening to you? Psalms 34:13-15, "Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking guile. 14 Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry." If you are doing right things; God cares for you as dear children! Your number one goal should be: Matthew 6:33, "But as for you, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." 1 Corinthians 14:33 & 40, "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints." & 40, "Let all things be done decently and in order."

#! to #6 Points to Consider |
|---|
|
Our attitude is of vital importance because it affects our relationship with our Creator and our fellow humans! We can choose to be blessed: Jeremiah 17:7-8, "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose hope is the LORD. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters; it sends out its roots by the river, and it shall not fear when the heat comes, but its foliage shall be green; and he is not worried in the year of drought, nor will it cease from yielding fruit." Or we can choose to do evil: Jeremiah 17:9-10, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings." Is it any wonder that King David,who had made grievous sins, had to ask God: Psalms 51:10-12, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and let Your free spirit uphold me." We today can approach the throne of grace and seek forgiveness as Christ has become our high priest, sitting at the right hand of God, the Father: Hebrews 8:1, "Now here is a summary of the things being discussed: We have such a High Priest Who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens." We too can have a clean heart: Hebrews 8:10, " 'For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of {spiritual} Israel after those days,' says the Lord: 'I will give My laws into their minds, and I will inscribe them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.' " #2 The Unforgiving: If we don't have a forgiving attitude, then we cut ourselves off from salvation! Matthew 6:14-15, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, forgave Alexander. 2 Timothy 4:14, "Alexander the coppersmith did many evil things against me. May the Lord reward him according to his works." Paul knew forgiveness of someone who did evil works, did not release the offender from consequences: Titus 1:16, "They personally profess to know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and reprobate unto every good work." Romans 12:17-19, "Do not render to anyone evil for evil, but be prepared to do what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, as much as is your part, be at peace with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; rather, leave this to God's wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine! I will recompense {repay},' says the Lord." Acts 5:32, "And we are His witnesses of these things, as is also the Holy Spirit, which God has given to those who obey Him." #3 Proud and Arrogant: We are cautioned to think before we speak, to avoid troubles. Proverbs 21:23-24, "Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles. 24 A proud and haughty scorner is his name who acts with arrogant rage." There are people who react to surrounding events with arrogant (proud) rage (wrath). Some people, who lack wisdom, delight in exhibiting intense anger without regard to the truth. First we must be willing to examine surrounding events to ascertain what appears to have occurred. Then after evaluation of all the "facts" we should be able to determine what action; if any we should take. If there are problems within your family and peace is elusive, the solution may be to cast out the cause of conflict. Proverbs 22:10, "Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yes, quarreling and abuse shall cease." Note that: Proverbs 24:8-9, "He who plots to do evil shall be called a master of devious thoughts {of wickedness}. 9 The thought of foolishness is sin, and the scorner {the mocker} is an abomination to men." #4 The Wicked & Sinful: Just how motivated should we be each day? Isaiah 55:6-7, "Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." If we have strayed from God's truth and holy precepts; the sooner we "get on tract" towards God's way of living life, the better it is for all people concerned. Pray to receive help from God. 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." #5 The Foolish: If you harbor hate in your heart, you have a dire problem! James 3:14-18, "But if you harbor bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth. 15 Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peace-loving, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap the fruit of righteousness." Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God." Remember the teaching in: Matthew 5:22, "But I say to you, everyone who is angry with his brother without cause shall be subject to judgment. Now you have heard it said, 'Whoever shall say to his brother, "Raca," shall be subject to the judgment of the council.' But I say to you, whoever shall say, 'You fool,' shall be subject to the fire of Gehenna." Fools are further warned and advised: Proverbs 26:10-12, "The great God who formed all things both rewards the fool and rewards transgressors. 11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool returns to his own folly. 12 Do you see a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope for a fool than for him." Jesus has this to say to transgressors: Luke 9:57, & 61-62, "Now it came to pass that as they were going along the road, someone said to Him, 'I will follow You wherever You may go, Lord.' … 61 And another also said, 'I will follow You, Lord, but allow me first to bid farewell to those who are at my house.' 62 But Jesus said to him, 'No one who sets his hand to the plow, and looks back at the things behind, is fit for the kingdom of God.' " #6 The Dishonest & Manipulative: There are those people who seek riches and wealth. What kind of hope for salvation and the attainment of God's kingdom do they have? Matthew 19:23-26, "Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'Truly I say to you, it is extremely difficult for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.' 25 But after hearing this, the disciples were greatly astonished and said, 'Who then is able to be saved?' 26 But Jesus looked at them and said, 'With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.' " So we can receive help from God: Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, Who empowers {strengthens} me." Our choices determines our "reward." Proverbs 12:20-23, "Deceit is in the heart of those who imagine evil, but to counselors of peace there is joy. 21 There shall no harm befall the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with trouble. 22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who deal truly are His delight. 23 A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools pours out foolishness." 2 Corinthians 11:13-14, "For such are false apostles— deceitful workers who are transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And it is no marvel, for Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light."
