Joy Examined in Detail
Read Psalms & Be Content David said in: Psalms 30:11-12, "You have turned my mourning into dancing; You have torn off my sackcloth and have clothed me with gladness, 12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever." David had sinned and turned from the Lord and he experienced the anger of God due to his errors and felt the Lord's displeasure. But as he notes in this psalm, the Lord's anger lasts only a moment but His favor lasts a life time. Psalms 30:5, "For His anger is only for a moment; His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." How many times have you cried in the night for forgiveness, due to your error of sin -and received grace and forgiveness in the morning? God has great mercy, so we can rejoice. Sins cause us to trip up and lose our way, but God is there to forgive us. God's great mercy and compassion brings us Joy. Thus we are compelled to seek and praise God. Psalms 42:1-2, "... As the hart {deer} pants after the water brooks, so my soul pants after You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?" There are times when we recognize the need for a loving God! Whether we realize it or not; our hope is in God. Psalms 42:11, "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, the salvation of my countenance, and my God." Paul urged us to rejoice always: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Rejoice always! 17 Pray unceasingly. 18 Give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." We can rejoice, despite at times we are undergoing severe situations and circumstances. We should be praising Christ as our King: Psalms 95:1-3, "O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to Him with psalms, 3 For the LORD is a great God and a great King above all gods." Enjoy life with your appropriate spouse, the one you love. Ecclesiastes 9:7-10, "Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God now accepts your works. 8 Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment. 9 "Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which He has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity. For that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you labor under the sun. 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave where you go." Try to comprehend James 1:2-4, "Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you are beset by various trials {adversities: temptations}, 3 Knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 But let endurance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and complete, not lacking in anything." The great tribulation is for a season; but it will pass and joy will come. John 16:21-22, "A woman when she is giving birth has grief because her time of travail has come; but after she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. 22 And likewise, you indeed have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no one shall take your joy from you." Are you finding joy in looking forward to the coming of the Lord? Psalms 98:4, "Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth, and rejoice, and sing praise." A song of thanksgiving written by Isaac Watts was inspired by a psalm when he wrote the hymn "Joy to the World." The song and psalm both focus on the Lord's second coming. We find this evidenced in the mention of the wide salvation of the earth. The psalmist emphasized how God has revealed His righteousness to nations or people of the world. The earth is to be full of joy! Psalms 98:5-9, "Sing to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre, and the voice of a psalm. 6 With silver trumpets and sound of a ram's horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD. 7 Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it, the world, and those who dwell in it. 8 Let the floods clap their hands; let the mountains sing for joy together 9 Before the LORD, for He comes to judge the earth; with righteousness He shall judge the world and the people with equity." Revelation 2:26, "And to the one who overcomes, and keeps My works unto the end, I will give authority over the nations." We should be looking forward to the return of Christ! 2 Peter 3:13, "But according to His promise, we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells." We should be daily praising God! Psalms 105:1-5, "O give thanks unto the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the people. 2 Sing to Him, sing praises unto Him; talk of all His wonderful works. 3 Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4 Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore. 5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth." We need to have the humility to give thanks to our Creator! Psalms 126:3-6, "The LORD did great things for us and we are glad. 4 Turn back our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. 5 Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He who goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come home with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves {bearing good fruit for harvest} with him." God has promised us the joy of good success! Galatians 6:9, "Now we should not lose heart in doing well because we who do not faint will reap {harvest} in due time." Trust God to provide the good harvest.

Sufficient for the day is the evil of that day." The earth is filled with God's abundant examples of Him providing for all our needs. Psalms 65:9 & 13, "You visit the earth and water it; You enrich it greatly; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for in this way You have prepared it." & 13, "The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain; they shout for joy and sing." Philippians 4:10-13, "But I rejoiced greatly in the Lord, that at last your care for me has revived— although you were already thinking of me, but you lacked an opportunity to provide. 11 I am not saying this in respect to being destitute; for I have learned that in whatever circumstances I am, to be content. 12 For I have experienced being brought low, and I have experienced abounding. In everything and in all things I have been taught both to be full and to hunger, both to abound and to be without. 13 I can do all things through Christ, Who empowers {strengthens} me." Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you now with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope and in the power of the Holy Spirit."
