The Bride of Christ Introduced

God has a purpose for Church members, who must be: 2 Corinthians 10:5, "Casting down vain imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:2-3, "For I am jealous over you with the jealousy of God because I have espoused you to one husband, so that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

God shows His love for us by His actions: John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish, but may have everlasting life." However everlasting life is conditional: John 3:18, " … "the one who does not believe has already been judged because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Mark 16:16, "The one who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but the one who does not believe shall be condemned."

Bride and Bridegroom Examined

Scripture introduces the fact that more than one virgin is espoused to the Bridegroom: Matthew 25:1, "Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom." However not all of them are prepared to meet the Bridegroom!

How does the bride who is espoused to Christ, prepare herself for the wedding supper with Christ, her bridegroom? She must believe in the Son. "The one who believes in the Son has everlasting life … " (John 3:36). She must have faith and she must have works: "Do you believe that God is one {not divided}? You do well to believe this. Even the demons believe—and tremble in fear. 20 But are you willing to understand, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:19-20).

The Bride can not be disobedient! "… the one who does not obey the Son shall not see life, for the wrath of God remains on him." (John 3:36).

The Bible describes the church as the bride of Christ, symbolizing a deep and intimate relationship between Christ and His followers. The scripture in Ephesians have a deep and thoughtful spiritual meaning; a corollary of the Church and Christ as Wife and Husband: "Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord; 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the Head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 For even as the church is subject to Christ, in the same way also let wives be subject to their own husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your own wives, in the same way that Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; 26 So that He might sanctify it, having cleansed it with the washing of the water by the Word; 27 That He might present it to Himself as the glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it might be holy and without blame. (Ephesians 5:22-27).

Meditate deeply upon the following: "In the same way, husbands are dutybound to love {must love} their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself; 29 For no man has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body—of His flesh and of His bones. 31 For this reason shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery; but I am speaking in respect to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, let each one of you love his wife even as himself; and let each wife see that she reverence her husband." (Ephesians 5:28-33). The bride of Christ is called to be pure, faithful, and obedient to her bridegroom, Jesus Christ.

Summation

The True believers are called the Bride of Christ. They not only keep the Faith of Jesus, but also follow God's Commandments. Revelation 14:12, "Here is the patience of the saints; here are the ones who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.". Revelation 19:7-9, " 'Let us be glad and shout with joy; and let us give glory to Him; for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.' 8 And it was granted to her that she should be clothed in fine linen, pure and bright; for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. 9 And he said to me, 'Write: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.' And he said to me, 'These are the true words of God.' "

Revelation 21:2, "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

Revelation 21:9-10, "And one of the seven angels that had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, 'Come here, and I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife.' 10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God." The spiritual temple of God has become the new Jerusalem.

God seeks an eternal covenant of peace with humanity that have been wayward and erred! Isaiah 54:5-10, " 'For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; the God of the whole earth shall He be called, 6 For the LORD has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when you were rejected,' says your God. 7 'For a little moment I forsook you; but with great compassions I will gather you. 8 In a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,' says the LORD your Redeemer, 9 'For this is as the waters of Noah to Me; for as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn from being angry with you and from rebuking you; 10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall the covenant of My peace be removed,' says the LORD Who has mercy on you."

God seeks peace and an honorable relationship with His People! Hosea 2:18-23, "And in that day I will make a covenant for them, with the beasts of the field, and with the birds of the heavens, and with the creeping things of the ground. And I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely. 19 And I will betroth you to Me forever. Yea, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. 20 I will even betroth you to Me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD. 21 And it will be in that day that I will answer," says the LORD. "I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth, 22 And the earth shall answer with grain and wine and oil. And they shall answer Jezreel. 23 And I will sow her to Me in the earth. And I will have mercy on her that was shown no mercy. And I will say to her that was not My people, 'You are My people.' And they shall say, 'You are my God.' " The church (is a body of people serving God). It is to be compared to that of a husband and wife, emphasizing love, unity, and commitment.

Christ is the stone that the builders have rejected. As Jesus said: " … 'The Stone that the builders rejected, this one has become the head of the corner." (Luke 20:17). A spiritual temple, not a physical temple, is being built of consecrated saints (holy ones who have the faith of Jesus and keep the commandments of God): Ephesians 2:18-22, "For through Him we both have direct access by one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then, you are no longer aliens and foreigners; but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of the household of God. 20You are being built up on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief Cornerstone 21 In Whom all the building {spiritual temple}, being conjointly fitted together, is increasing into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 In Whom you also are being built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit."
