Abominations

Prelude: Warning God Defines Abominations!

Warning this article you may not agree with. If it is too complex and you are bothered by it; then exit out of this subject and leave it alone!

Proverbs 6:16-19, "These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

A proud look,---A lying tongue,---Hands that shed innocent blood,---A heart that devises wicked plans,---Feet that are swift in running to evil,---A false witness who speaks lies,---and One who sows {spreads} discord {strife} among brethren."

Abominations are defined and noted within the inspired word of God: 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 17 So that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work." Hebrews 1:1, "God, Who spoke to the fathers at different times in the past and in many ways by the prophets, has spoken to us in these last days by His Son."

When abominations are committed, God is sorely displeased! 2 Kings 21:10-12, "And the LORD spoke by His servants the prophets, saying, 11 "Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations, doing more wickedly than all that the Amorites did, who were before him, and has made Judah also to sin with his idols, 12 Therefore, thus says the LORD God of Israel, 'Behold, I am bringing evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, so that whoever hears of it both his ears shall tingle.' " Read more about the abominations committed at: 2 Kings 21:1-16. If you choose to practice abominations, what do you think God might do to you?

Will the LORD respond to you in this manner? Jeremiah 29:17-19, "Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the plague, and will make them like worthless figs which cannot be eaten because they are so rotten. 18 And I will pursue them with the sword, with the famine, and with the plague, and will make them an astonishment to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and a waste, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations where I have driven them, 19 Because they have not hearkened {paid attention} to My words,' says the LORD, 'which I sent to them by My servants the prophets, again and again; but you would not hear,' says the LORD." Repeatedly God has warned people to avoid evil, but people refused to listen and continued to commit abominations!

Abominations Examined in Detail

Noah was aware of God's dietary laws stating unclean flesh as abominable. Leviticus 10:10, "You are to distinguish between the holy and unholy, and between the unclean and clean." Clean and Unclean animals are defined within Leviticus 11:1-47! The unclean animals are an abomination, they are detestable and are not to be eaten by those who choose to please the LORD God!

Let's examine other scripture that point out abominations:

Lev 11:10-13, "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing that is in the waters, they shall be an abomination to you. 11 They shall even be an abomination to you. You shall not eat of their flesh, but you shall have their carcasses in abomination. 12 Whatever has no fins nor scales in the waters shall be an abomination to you. 13 And you shall have these in abomination among the fowls. They shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the black vulture, and the bearded vulture,"

Lev 11:20 Every flying creature that swarms, going on all four legs, is an abomination to you.

Lev 11:23 But every other flying, swarming thing which has four feet shall be an abomination to you.

Lev 11:41-42, "And every creeping thing that creeps on the earth shall be an abomination. It shall not be eaten. 42 Anything going on its belly, and any going on all four, and all having many feet, even every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, you shall not eat them, for they are an abomination."

Lev 18:22 You shall not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination to God.

Deu 7:25-26, "You shall burn the graven images of their gods with fire. You shall not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, so that you may not be snared in it, for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. 26 And you shall not bring an abomination into your house, lest you become a cursed thing like it. You shall utterly hate it, and you shall utterly despise it, for it is a cursed thing."

Deu 12:31 You shall not do so to the LORD your God, for every abomination to the LORD, which He hates, they have done to their gods; even their sons and their daughters they have burned in the fire to their gods.

Deu 17:1 "You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God any bull or sheep in which there is a blemish, or any evil thing for that is an abomination to the LORD your God.

Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination to the LORD. And because of these abominations, the LORD your God drives them out from before you.

Deu 23:18 You shall not bring the hire of a harlot, or the price of a dog into the house of the LORD your God for any vow, for even both these are an abomination to the LORD your God.

Deu 24:4 Her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled, for that is an abomination before the LORD. And you shall not cause the land to sin which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

Deu 25:16 For all who do such things, all who are dishonest, are an abomination to the LORD your God.

Deu 27:15 'Cursed is the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'

There is a reason why certain warnings were written within the Old Covenant Writings: 1 Corinthians 10:11-14, "Now all these things happened to them as examples, and were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages are coming. 12 Therefore, let the one who thinks he stands take heed, lest he fall. 13 No temptation has come upon you except what is common to mankind. For God, Who is faithful, will not permit you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear; but with the temptation, He will make a way of escape, so that you may be able to bear it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry." Avoid the abominable, shun evil! James 4:17, "Therefore, if anyone knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin." 1 John 5:21, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen."

Solomon became unequally yoked ("married") to many foreign women and he turned away from the Lord and chose to do evil!: 1 Kings 11:1-6, "And King Solomon loved many foreign women, even the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, Hittites; 2 Of the nations which the LORD had said to the children of Israel, "You shall not go in to them, and they shall not go in to you; surely they will turn away your heart after their gods." But Solomon clung to these in love. 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. And his wives turned away his heart, 4 For it came to pass when Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods. And his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God as was the heart of David his father, 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom, the abomination of the Ammonites; 6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD and did not go fully after the LORD like his father David."

1 Kings 11:7-11, "Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill which is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 8 And likewise he did for all his foreign wives, and burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. 9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel Who had appeared to him twice 10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; and he did not keep that which the LORD commanded. 11 And the LORD said to Solomon, "Since this has been done by you, and since you have not kept My covenant and My statutes which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant."

Need more be said about abominations and evil that people do? People call evil good and good evil. Isaiah 5:20, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" We are called to Jesus to become Holy. 1 Peter 1:14-17, "As obedient children, do not conform yourselves to the former lusts, as you did in your ignorance. 15 But according as He Who has called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct; 16 For it is written, 'You be holy because I am holy.' 17 And if you call upon the Father, Who judges according to each man's work without respect of persons, pass the time of your life's journey in the fear {reverence} of God."

Summation

Our goal should be to be holy as a New Covenant Saint with actions that are pleasing towards God! Romans 12:9-15, "Let love be without hypocrisy, abhorring that which is evil and cleaving to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned toward one another in brotherly love. Let each esteem the other more highly than himself. 11 Be not slack in business. Be fervent in spirit. Be timely in serving. 12 Be rejoicing in hope. Be patient in tribulation. Be steadfastly continuing in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints, and strive to be hospitable. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."

Romans 12:16-21, "Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high ambitions; rather, be accommodating with those of low estate. Do not be wise in your own eyes. 17 Do not render to anyone evil for evil, but be prepared to do what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, as much as is your part, be at peace with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves; rather, leave this to God's wrath; for it is written, " 'Vengeance is Mine! I will recompense,' says the Lord." 20 Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for in doing this you will be heaping coals of fire on his head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
